Lip fillers are a popular non-surgical option for enhancing the shape, volume and definition of the lips. When carefully administered by an experienced practitioner, they can help create a softer, more balanced appearance while keeping your results natural and in proportion with your facial features.
At Dr Hennessy Clinics, we focus on subtle, tailored enhancements rather than an overfilled look. Whether you want to add volume, improve symmetry, restore lost shape or achieve a more defined lip border, we’ll take the time to understand your goals and create a treatment plan that is right for you.

What Are Lip Fillers?
Lip fillers are injectable treatments used to enhance the shape, volume and definition of the lips. They are usually made with hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the body and helps keep the skin hydrated and plump.
Treatment can be tailored to your features and goals. Some people want a subtle increase in volume, while others may want to improve symmetry, define the lip border or restore shape that has been lost over time.
Fillers can be used to:
- Add natural-looking volume to the upper or lower lip
- Improve balance between both lips
- Define the lip border and Cupid’s bow
- Correct uneven shape or asymmetry
- Smooth fine lines around the mouth
- Create a fresher, more youthful appearance
At Dr Hennessy Clinics, we focus on results that look balanced, soft and natural. Your practitioner will assess your lips and facial proportions before recommending the most suitable approach for you.
What Happens When You Have Lip And Face Fillers?
Here at Dr Hennessy Clinic, we understand that your main concern is what to expect, how it will turn out and of course that the treatment is being completed by a qualified and experienced practitioner. You can book your procedure with peace of mind because all of our non-surgical procedures are carried out personally by cosmetic facial rejuvenation expert Dr Stephen Hennessy BDS.
Consultations are available to discuss your needs and what you want to achieve. Often, an anaesthetic cream is applied to numb the skin and lip area, although it may be slightly uncomfortable the treatment should not be painful. The length of time the treatment takes is dependent on the type of treatment, for this particular lip procedure you can usually expect the process to take around 30 minutes.
What to do after the treatment
After your lip treatment, it is normal for the area to feel slightly tender and appear red or swollen. Some mild bruising may also occur, but this usually settles within a few days.
During your consultation and after your treatment, we’ll give you clear aftercare advice to help support your recovery and reduce the risk of side effects. This may include avoiding makeup immediately after treatment, not applying pressure to the lips, avoiding alcohol and strenuous exercise for 24 hours, and staying away from saunas, steam rooms and excessive heat while the area settles.
If you have any concerns after your appointment, our team will be available to offer advice and reassurance.
What Are The Risks?
The risks of dermal fillers depend on whether the procedure was done correctly and the type of filler used. Speak to your practitioner about the risks. Dr Hennessy will only use the safest and most effective filler, and has over 20 years experience so that overfilled and lumpy lips just don’t happen. Serious problems and allergic reactions are rare and during our 20 years we have not yet seen any occur.
If this is your first visit to Dr Hennessy’s clinics, one of his nurses will call you two weeks after treatment. However, as discussed during the appointment, if you ever experience anything you are concerned about, we give you a number to call immediately.
Who Are Lip Injections Suitable For?
Lip injections may be suitable if you would like to enhance your natural lip shape, add subtle volume or create more balance between your upper and lower lips. They can also be a good option if your lips have lost volume over time, or if you would like to improve definition around the lip border for a smoother, more refreshed appearance.
At Dr Hennessy Clinics, our focus is always on natural-looking results that suit your individual features. During your consultation, we’ll take the time to understand what you would like to achieve, assess your lips and facial proportions, and recommend a treatment plan that feels right for you.
This treatment may be suitable if you want to:
- Add natural-looking volume to the lips
- Improve lip shape and definition
- Create better symmetry between the upper and lower lips
- Restore volume lost through ageing
- Soften fine lines around the mouth
- Achieve a fresher, more balanced appearance without surgery
Who May Not Be Suitable For Lip Injections?
Lip injections are not suitable for everyone, which is why a consultation is such an important part of the process. We’ll always assess your medical history, skin, lips and treatment goals before deciding whether the treatment is right for you.
Treatment may need to be postponed or avoided if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active cold sore, infection or irritation around the lips, or have certain allergies or medical conditions. You may also be advised to wait if you have recently had dental work or another facial treatment.
We will also talk honestly with you about your expectations. If we feel lip injections are not the best option for the result you want, we’ll explain why and recommend a safer or more suitable approach where appropriate.
A Natural Approach to Enhancing Your Features
Every face is different, which is why your treatment should never feel one-size-fits-all. At Dr Hennessy Clinics, we take a careful and considered approach, focusing on subtle enhancements that work with your natural features rather than changing the way you look.
Your appointment will begin with a consultation, where we’ll discuss your goals, assess your facial proportions and explain what can realistically be achieved. Some people want a small, barely noticeable refresh, while others may want more definition, balance or shape. Whatever your goal, we’ll guide you towards a result that feels natural, flattering and right for you.
Our aim is to help you feel more confident while still looking like yourself. With years of experience in facial rejuvenation, Dr Hennessy focuses on soft, balanced results that complement your overall appearance.

Yes, the treatment can be combined with other treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections (Botox), skin boosters, and polynucleotide treatments to enhance overall facial rejuvenation.
